My parents signed me up for horse lessons when I was 8 years old because I needed a healthy dose of respect and understanding to accompany my unbridled love of big animals. I started taking hunter/jumper lessons but made the switch to western pleasure after attending an adventure horse camp in Buena Vista, Colorado. Summers were rich with gymkhana, backcountry pack trips, cattle working, polocrosse, swimming with horses, and massive games of capture the flag in the back woods. I returned year after year and eventually became a wrangler, then program head of the youth corral program.  It was during this time that I decided I had two passions- working with horses and working with kids. After graduating from Tulane University with a degree in sociology and French, I joined Teach for America and moved to the Mississippi Delta where I taught 2nd and 3rd grade. I volunteered with a local horse rescue, but largely focused on the latter passion. When we moved back to Colorado, I taught kindergarten at a private nature-based school in Lafayette and then at a public charter in Erie. While taking some time off with my own young children, I decided it was time to officially bring a horse into our family and Evangeline (see below) joined our crew. It's an understatement to say she has been my inspiration to keep learning.

I received my certification through the Rocky Mountain School of Animal Acupressure and Massage. I have also taken continuing education courses in myofascial release and pressure points.
